AFC Championship Game Sized Up

I recently saw an article on Joeuser.com about the Indianapolis Colts and how they would be getting revenge on the Patriots, and me being a Massachusetts native I had to defend the home team.

New England Patriots vs Indianapolis Colts for a trip to the Super Bowl.

This game is going to take place at Gillete Stadium in the deep freeze that the New Englanders have been subject to. Yesterday, the Patriot's had practice outside while the Colts had their practice in their comfy little dome. Earlier this season the Patriots stopped the Colts at the 2 yard line to hold on to the win. Now if the New England Patriots could beat the Colts at their house in their dome, then the cold weather Patriots automatically have the advantage. The Patriots are undefeated at home and this game will continue their streak onto the road to Houston.

Tom Brady, New England's quarterback, has thrown 281 passes at home and has not thrown a single interception. But Peyton Manning has also thrown only 12 incompletions and 8 touchdown passes in the postseason. So while the Patriots edged out on their last game against the Titans the Colts have been red hot in the postseason, blowing out the Broncos in the wildcard round and keeping the streak alive by a touchdown against the once "undefeated" Chiefs.

But the one thing that I don't understand is after all the Patriots' sucess no one gives the team the respect they deserve. They are on a 13 game win streak and if they win in the AFC Championship game, they would be 14-0 and that was the record of the 1972 Dolphins at the end of their 14-game season. So why aren't the Patriots getting the respect they deserve? For the simple fact that they don't have finesse. They don't put 30 or 40 points on the scoreboard, but they also keep their opponents scoring less then them. With two shutouts this season not many teams can say that they have as good of a defense as the Patriots.

So who is one to say who is going to go on to the Super Bowl and who go back home and watch the big game. While the Colts have a mediocre defense their offense is outstanding, but with the cold weather making the ball almost rock like, the passing game of the Colts may demise and the Patriots defense will step up. But it looks as though this game is going to be a defensive game with the Patriots offense managing to score one more touchdown then their former AFC East rivals, the Indianapolis Colts in a 17-10 win.
